New York Fashion Week FW21 – Christian Siriano Upcycles and Presents a Proper Covid-Proof Runway Show

He is by far the most successful “Project Runway” alumni and carrier of fresh ideas within the NYFW designer circuit. Early on in the pandemic, he led the way for high-fashion American designers to create and donate COVID-19 face masks, and he designed new ones to accompany his glam creations, currently available online in his “see-now-buy-now” FW21 shop (Expected Delivery: 8-12 weeks after purchase). His NYFW show took place at his favorite venue Gotham Hall on February 25th in the presence of a small socially-distanced audience of editors/fashion insiders and with a lot of COVID-testing into the mix. Coco Rocha, the designer’s muse, walked down the runway as part of a highly inclusive roster of models that gave fabulous versatility to the picture. For FW21, he imagined us going up to the mountains, in Aspen or elsewhere, attending secret cocktail parties outdoors, and enjoying the sunsets. He envisioned ladies in colorful ruffled & frilled gowns or bright silks wrapped in cozy outerwear. The color palette exudes optimism and joy. Leading innovation, Siriano upcycled in collaboration with thredUP who sourced them, gently used pieces from his previous collections, being the first designer to incorporate such pieces with new ones on the same runway at the New York Fashion Week. “Beautyrest” sustainable mattresses were featured at the show, with models pointing at the beauty of a well-rested face as well as the time we all wake up and stride with confidence towards our joyful post-pandemic lives. Fingers crossed!
