Artistic Beauty by Katya Leonovich!

Katya Leonovich presented this season her SS16 collection as part of an overall art installation consisting of her own ‘second skin’ paintings and her ‘Bisected Beauty’ style vision for women. Colors from the canvases almost reflected onto the cloths in a rather conceptual form that sounds tempting to all edgy fashionistas. The art-and-fashion mix further expanded into hair and makeup, rendered through avant-garde styling. The designer’s unconventional attitude was dominant at the High Line Lofts were her NYFW event took place. Attendees were an eye-catching mix from art and fashion circles, seeing the collection most as whole creative universe articulated by Leonovich through many years of work with mega stars of entertainment and the rest of her exquisite clientele.

katya_leo2‘Bisected beauty’ is reinterpreted beauty. It’s a value that the designer scrutinizes so as to come up with new meaningful forms. Her dresses, artfully printed, asymmetrical and unexpected, are stand-outs for any woman who dares to express her originality openly. The dramatic styling and presentation with a theatrical feel, was a real match to these statement pieces. I was very much impressed when I saw her combining neoprene with fox fur in one of her dresses; she was literally pushing the boundaries ahead to an era that reevaluates and high-and-low ratio in fashion. And the paintings were equally extraordinary, with intense forms and a wise use of contrasts. What a great experience!
