Lacoste set up an exotic interior garden on the 6th floor of Spring Studios and we were all watching the imaginative and sporty SS17 show sitting in cool arrangements among palm trees and tropical foliage. The hooded models, glad in bold colors and pastels were a source of fashion bliss!

New York based women’s wear designer Layana Aguilar released her SS17 collection during New York Fashion Week on Saturday, September 10th 2016 to an exuberant crowd at the Highline Loft in the Chelsea district of Manhattan. Brazilian born Aguilar drew inspiration from the most delicate of beings, the humming bird. “Miss Happy Humming Bird” is an ode to the light we all carry inside, the strength we have to overcome all obstacles and the power of the female spirit.  Neoprene and mesh took the stage in her latest collection. Brought to life through the striking, yet ethereal print that she created specifically for this collection, along with the use of white, black and teal. Through vibrant and subtle color choices, ingenious style lines and perfectly proportioned volume, Aguilar’s effervescence came through as an effortless display of wearable art.

Designer Christian Siriano unveiled his spring/summer 2017 runway collection at New York Fashion Week.  Four looks, inspired by the various prints, textiles, and colors incorporated throughout the Spring/Summer 2017 Collection is available immediately after the show, exclusively on Amazon.com, on September 10th, 2016. In addition to the see now, buy now runway collection, select shoe styles from the runway is available immediately following the show at Payless stores nationwide and payless.com.  Also available for immediate purchase will be Christian Siriano’s signature fragrance, “Silhouette,” available on Amazon. “My Spring 2017 collection is perfect for a getaway on the Isle of Capri. Vintage photos from the late 60s and 70s — particularly Settimio Garritano’s photos of Jackie Onassis’ vacations in Capri from 1969 to 1973 — inspired a cool, modern seaside collection fit for a world-traveled woman. Garritano captured Onassis’ effortless chic and elegant silhouettes. The turquoise waters and citrus orange-stripe umbrella-lined beaches of the Tyrrhenian Sea inspired a bright and bold color palate. In the collection are soft cotton stripes, woven raffia, textured lace, and sheer organza overlays: casual elegance for day and evening,” Christian Siriano said.

Inspired by classic American sportswear and denim, the Etienne Deroeux SS17 collection interpreted the mood for introspection with an urban silhouette which is both fluid and architectural. It was a subtle androgyny where bleached Japanese denim meets finer silk fabrics. Soft canvas juxtaposed with gold and silver thermal materials. Malleable, lingerie-inspired knits and a hybrid of different materials, were both strong and luxurious evoking versatility.

Son Jung Wan debuted her exuberant Spring/Summer 2017 collection which is reminiscent of her impressions of the ‘70s. The bold looks included a playful mix of vivid colors, bold prints, and feminine silhouettes that captured the glamour and excitement of the fabulous Studio 54 era – Supermodel, Pat Cleveland surprised guests and closed the show. andrea_jiapei_ss17At Milk Studios Andrea Jiapei impressed the hip audience. This season’s collection “HER NAME IS DADA” was inspired by the 1920’s Dada Movement: where artists took inspiration from eclectic and sometimes arbitrary objects in daily life. This collection’s items were designed in similar fashion drawing from various sources of inspiration including sunsets (gradient pieces), plastic bags (vinyl pants), and a bottle of coconut water (blue pallet). This collection featured several special elements including: screen-printed gradients,  innovative fabric pairings on classic designs — ie. jersey + silk ottoman sleeves  & the use of nylon twill & water repellent cotton.

maison_the_faux_ss17In the same space, I also attended an even more whimsical presentation, that of Maison the Faux. The “Chubby Chaser” collection consisted out of a number of looks restraining excessive fabric and skin. Garments with carefully proportioned excess of fabric, breast augmentation dresses and cinched waists to exaggerate the overabundance of bare skin. Mi-parti, denim, leather, recycled furs, slits, knits, silk in earthy tones of nude as well as fleshy baby pink and baby blue were the basic features. The experiment happened under the art direction of Joris Suk and Tessa de Boer together with a number of creative partners called “les Résidents”. The label is convinced that young talent and concession-free designs are an important addition to the current fashion landscape.

Later in the evening, a hippest crowd of the city enjoyed drinks, fireworks, and perfect dj set at the Maybelline NY party and lounge on a Milk Studios terrace!
