New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2021 – Mr. Saturday is Highlighting Youth Cultures

Continuing the brand’s study of ephemera and cultural progression from the perspective of historical study, the Mr. Saturday Autumn/Winter 2021 “Both Direction At Once” collection reflects on the similarities between different generations and draws inspiration from Evelyn Waugh’s novel, ‘Vile Bodies.’ The novel satirizes young, wealthy people – dubbed “Bright Young Things” – partying in London in the 1920s following World War I. Mr. Saturday reinterprets the novel’s themes and places them in the setting of today — 2021. The collection focuses on the parallels between the generation of “Bright Young Things” and the current generation, highlighting the importance of persistence in youth cultures as a form of protest and progress.

For the Autumn/Winter 2021, Mr. Saturday continues storytelling through its signature oversized, unstructured tailoring and choice of fabrics, patchwork applications, and graphics that are an elevated take on nostalgic feelings. Key pieces from the menswear range include new oversized suiting silhouettes, leather trousers, classic bomber jackets made with upcycled fabric from vintage World War II, trench coats, and new puffer jackets. Across the womenswear range, the designs tell a similar story through nostalgic silhouettes with a refined edge. The womenswear pieces feature classic Americana silhouettes but with elevated fabrications and fluid lines to compliment a wide range of body shapes and sizes. Key looks include a column dress made from silk crepe with extended detachable sleeves, cotton and down-lined padded jackets, and exaggerated knit pieces including all-new cashmere sets.
