Tom Ford Fall/Winter 2022: Monochrome & Two-Tone Sporty Glamour

Inspired by American streetwear and athleisure and mixing it with Parisian decadence, Tom Ford created for Fall/Winter 2022-23 a collection that is sexy and comfy 24/7. Layering hoodies under sharp suits makes these luxurious items more in tune with our active selves. Made of luxurious velvet in jewel tones these blazers and pants will keep you glamorous throughout the day and evening.

Velvet layers, satin tops & dresses, and fluffy/feathery outerwear take the textural game centerstage. It’s all about different textures in tonal, monochrome, and two-tone outfits. Head-to-toe you are playing within the same color scheme.

Outfits in amethyst purple, turquoise, ruby pink, sapphire blue, emerald green, and red become figure-elongating components in his vision. To capitalize on this effect, he styles everything with tonal tights and shoes. And when in a really naughty mood, he contrasts them with black pieces in the look.

Black comes in faux fur jackets, velvet, sequins, sheer, and glossy layers with his signature editorial attitude when styling and photographing things.

For special occasions – although his whole collection is extra-glam in a casual and formal sense – he encourages us to wear bodycon maxi evening gowns with full-on or partial coverage. A keyhole neckline or sheer mesh paneling in abstract curvilinear shapes will allow you to show some skin in a modelesque way.

Although quite extravagant, his looks are never missing the point. If you love to be posh even in your most casual moments or if you believe that there is no such thing as being overdressed, a hooded top with a plush velvet suit will become your urban uniform. Just look for your favorite, most flattering color and go for it!

The lookbook in itself is magical and fairytale-looking. To me, it alludes to the “Little Red Riding Hood” story but in urban, adult, and minimalist terms.

The whole collection has a playful, whimsical touch, yet with a pragmatic outcome. I would describe it – like many of Ford’s previous collections – as wearable fantasy!
