At the awe-producing American Museum of Natural History, Brandon Maxwell presented us with another beautiful collection inspired by tailoring and exuding the designer’s love for precision. With the exception of a few fluid semi-sheer evening looks, most items were sharply tailored and crafted from wool, cashmere, suede, and corduroy. From outerwear and knitwear to downs and classy separates, the outfits had an American flair. Shades of green – especially khaki – and sophisticated neutrals including beige or nude, off-white, and black are easy to wear and mix & match. Eclectic shades of red and yellow are the bright accents. Leather and fabrics were finest quality for a touch of luxury rendered in simple unpretentious silhouettes. Simplicity is always the hardest to pull off in an extraordinary way, and he nailed it in that department. Large lapels and collars gave outerwear a super cozy feel. Cross body belt bags and exposed midriffs were the young elements in the mix. Brandon added menswear to the show and the collection as a cool introduction to his upscale vision for men.
