Lumen: The Light That Leads Domenico Orefice Forward

Every designer reaches a moment when instinct sharpens into clarity. For Domenico Orefice, that moment arrived in Milan with Lumen, a collection that transformed the runway into a meditation on movement, purpose, and creative evolution. Presented during Milan Men’s  Fashion Week as the designer’s official debut on the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana calendar, Lumen signaled an important new chapter for the Naples-born creative. More than a seasonal offering, the collection revealed a vision coming fully into focus—a language refined through experience and expressed with renewed confidence.

Light serves as the collection’s emotional and symbolic foundation. It appears not as decoration, but as a force that guides, reveals, and transforms. Throughout the presentation, Orefice explored the idea of navigating unknown territory, embracing uncertainty as an essential part of growth. The result was a deeply personal narrative woven into every silhouette, material, and gesture on the runway.

Models emerged from darkness as if stepping into a new horizon, carrying the spirit of a traveler guided by an unseen beacon. The atmosphere felt cinematic and almost dreamlike, unfolding as a story rather than a conventional fashion show. Within this carefully orchestrated environment, clothing became a vehicle for storytelling, tracing the path of an individual moving toward greater self-awareness and purpose.

That sense of maturity was reflected in the collection itself. Orefice’s signature fusion of Italian craftsmanship and contemporary sportswear remained intact, yet the proportions felt more controlled, the tailoring more assured. Silhouettes possessed a quiet precision, allowing construction and materiality to take center stage. There was an ease to the garments, balanced by a sense of intention that elevated each look.

Leather, long central to the designer’s identity, continued to play a leading role. This season, it appeared through innovative techniques and upcycled materials developed in collaboration with Italian leather maison Demiurgo. The approach reinforced Orefice’s commitment to craftsmanship while introducing a fresh perspective on material experimentation. Rich textures added further dimension, particularly through the introduction of shearling, which brought warmth and tactile depth to the collection.

The evolution of the brand extended beyond apparel. Lumen marked the arrival of Domenico Orefice’s first fully commercial leather bags and footwear, all crafted in Italy. Shirting also entered the collection for the first time, expanding the designer’s vocabulary while maintaining the distinctive character that has drawn increasing international attention.

Color moved with restraint and purpose. Orefice’s recognizable foundation of black and beige was illuminated by soft notes of pale blue and green, shades that seemed to echo the collection’s central theme. These subtle interventions created moments of freshness and lightness, enhancing the emotional rhythm of the runway without disrupting its refined aesthetic.

The world of Lumen extended beyond fashion through a collaboration with Paris-based design studio Douze Degrés. Known for its celebrated Flare lamps and multidisciplinary practice, the studio created sculptural installations that lined the runway like contemporary monuments. Constructed from reclaimed objects and upcycled materials, the works evoked the spirit of Arte Povera while reinforcing the collection’s exploration of transformation and meaning. Positioned throughout the space, they stood as markers along an imagined journey, each one representing a moment of discovery.

Sound became another essential element of the experience. Curated by Italian producer and DJ NIIO, the soundtrack incorporated experimental recordings created by the collective Moonlit through the use of contact microphones. The resulting composition carried an almost otherworldly quality, enveloping guests in an immersive environment where fashion, design, performance, and music merged into a single narrative.

Among the collection’s highlights was a preview of a collaboration with J’Adore Napoli, the nss edicola project dedicated to exploring a contemporary vision of Neapolitan identity. Through a leather T-shirt presented on the runway, Orefice subtly acknowledged the city that continues to inform his perspective and creative sensibility. The journey that led to this moment began years ago. Born in Naples in 1997, Orefice relocated to Florence as a teenager to pursue his fashion education before continuing his studies at Polimoda. His early fascination with leather craftsmanship evolved into a distinctive design practice that has attracted growing recognition across international fashion platforms. Over the past several years, presentations at Pitti Uomo, Milan Fashion Week, and Dubai Fashion Week have steadily positioned him among the most compelling voices of a new generation of Italian designers.

With Lumen, that ascent reaches a powerful milestone. The collection captures a designer who has moved beyond introduction and into affirmation, articulating his vision with conviction while remaining open to exploration.
