It wasn’t only about Paris Hilton transforming into a charming Cruella De Vil. It was also about the Maleficent, the Evil Queen, the Queen of Hearts, Dr. Facillier, and Ursula. The Blonds collaborated for their Spring/Summer 2019 show with Disney Villains to create a theatrical collection and an extravagant, dazzling fashion spectacle.
Designer Phillipe Blond and creative director David Blond did their best in infusing these characters with fierce glamour and stage-worthy allure. The show took place at the Spring Studios in Soho, and as always it was hugely anticipated. In the role of the Villains we also saw Johnny Wujek, Hennessy Carolina, Robert Verdi, Ashley Longshore, and Amrezy too.
Along with the bejeweled Couture-level looks, we had the chance to see a complementary capsule collection by designer Lauren Moshi. It included special-edition Villain-inspired T-shirts, jackets and separates that are now available for purchase in-store and online.
As you might see from my videos, the crowd was very excited. The room was packed and super vibrant. YouTube sensation Patrick Starr and designer Phillipe Blond himself went down the runway. Sparkly and shimmery catsuits, capes, and feathers turned the models into larger than life creatures. As I’ve told you before, the level of craftsmanship seen in these clothes is immense.
The jewel tones and the interplay of volumes further contributed to the fairytale aspect of the collection. Styling was a fantasy executed to perfection. CND collaborated with Disney to create unbelievably glam and intricate nail art. In total, the experts say that it took them 500 hours to create the nails, from inception and research to execution. Studs, crystals and charms were all hand-sewn. Snake-embellished corsets and giant spider rings reinforced the fierce element of the looks. The whole collection was nostalgic and cinematic. You could call it edgy romanticism as well!
As always staging included lots of motion, dancing, and performance. Each character felt iconic yet modern. It was a quite ambitious show which finally exceeded expectations.
‘The Blonds’ after-party was an extension of the catwalk. It took place at ‘The Blond’ on Howard Street, as it would fit the name and the attitude. Attendees made sure that they look the part, as the coolest crowd in the city, and the edgiest one!
