Amidst coronavirus risks and financial distress caused by the pandemic, many designers and their teams manage to keep their online stores open, selling wonderful pieces they already produced for the Spring/Summer season and even creating new pieces with the help of ‘work from home’ teams and loyal talented employees. Zoom, Skype, and other platforms are offering the tools for a live presentation and meeting, so designers can really exchange ideas and work together even from distant physical spaces; most probably their countryside residences. Some of them still complain that they cannot touch the fabrics or see more detail in the execution of a piece, yet the majority in the industry is determined to find a way out and be creative with available resources. Designers are convinced that fashion will cheer up people being already in lockdown for more or less two months. Also they reconsider production methods and marketing strategies more towards the direction of slow fashion, sustainability, ethical practices, and fewer collections created per year. Annually the rapid circle of production has caused many fashion brands to go bankrupt. Plus retail is suffering already since people find it more convenient. Covid-19 showed also that online shopping is safer and possible when in quarantine. A well-curated carefully packaged box will arrive at home and all you need to do is to responsibly open it and wash your hands. That way you will really reward the designers you find the courage to be bright and creative in these harsh circumstances. They put a brave face and try to keep their businesses afloat and pay their teams. This is definitely admirable!
