NYFW FW19: Chromat on the New Beach-Ready Norm

Colorful, sexy, and seaside appropriate the Chromat runway show this season meant to continue the dialogue about body beauty standards, inclusivity, and a positive approach to what image means for many of you. Neons, colorblock, sexy cut-outs, underboobs, racer backs, and an array of details on stretchy water-friendly fabrics make for eye-catching, sensational, and comfy outfits. Swimsuits are huge fashion statements. You could see from the general mood that both models and the audience were having lots of fun. Personally, I was happy to see so many different beauties on the runway!

The FW19 Climatic collection is inspired by MIAMI: a city on the front lines of climate crisis. This past November, Chromat launched a second design studio in Miami, FL. The new collection was built in this tropical paradise and is designed to be worn from your South Beach workout to your sunset swim.

Simultaneously a paradise and a natural disaster, Miami is on the front lines of climate change with rising water, increased flooding and toxic red tides. Witnessing this has instigated a new consciousness focused on mitigating environmental destruction through sustainable fabrics and more. The fashion industry contributes to poisoning waterways through use of toxic chemical dyes, mountains of fast fashion garment trash, inhumane labor practices and growing fibers with pesticides, formaldehydes and more.

They are committed to designing innovative swim and bodywear while ensuring a healthier planet. Chromat swim is made with sustainable fabric that uses regenerated nylon spun from fishing nets recovered from the world’s oceans. They also use up-cycled fabrics and work with safe, ethical, fair-wage factories.

Their goal is to design empowering garments for all bodies. This runway show celebrates the inspiring women, femmes and non-binary #ChromatBABES who inspire the world to be bold and unapologetic every day. Congrats!
