NYFW Fall/Winter 2016 Day 7

It was a day full of opulence and bold attitude with designers that have proudly established their presence in the US market mostly on the high-end side of things.

Naeem Khan was sparkly and colorful with Art Deco references in terms of motifs and sexy details that tease men’s senses! Red, black and gold were the colors that dominated the catwalk with lace and cut-outs adding extra sensuality and a luxe flair. The designer also created a special dress for a Make-A-Wish girl who appeared on the runway at the finale of the show smiling to the audience in a rather moving way! Kindness is the greatest beauty, we all know that! Among others Mia Moretti was attending the show front row, dressed in breathtaking caftan-style creation by the designer.

Another fellow designer with similar design origins from India, Bibhu Mohapatra presented right after, bringing a cool version of eveningwear full of smart details flattering each woman’s silhouette. This season he was inspired by a prominent woman in the Chinese history, Empress Dowager Cixi, of the Chinese dynasty that ruled from 1860 to 1908. The designer was charmed by the stories of the Forbidden Palace during his recent visit to Beijing. There was lot of interesting geometry in his clothes, color-blocking, Chinoiserie motifs, high slits, daring cut-outs, sexy tights by Hanes, harness style decorations by Zana Bayne, and an array of strategically positioned visual surprises that created an edgy version of far-east-inspired eveningwear.

The contrasting element in my day was the presentation of architecture-inspired capsule collection by swiss brand Victorinox at the Suisse Institute. Functionality prevailed despite the artistic makeover of some core elements. We were talking about pockets that are placed in the right height an distance, insulating linings, lightweight warm materials, perfectly design hoods and closures, selvage denim which is trendy right now, accessories with the right amount of practical elements, and tech fabrics. Yet i could also a more sophisticated palette and a few motifs imitating natural effects!

The day wrapped with two fashion parties; the after party of Bibhu Mohapatra and a fashion week closing party at Beautique close to shopping paradise Bergdorf Goodman! So much fun!

Stay tuned!!!
