Black & white is one of the smartest contrasts a woman can have in her outfits. It’s chic, safe, and slimming. It gets all of the attention but can never be called ‘loud’. Having this in mind – and many more practical issues – I bought this amazing pair of Karl Lagerfeld booties in black & white – a signature contrast for the designer and for the houses he’s working for. Divided in two contrasting zones, this design seems to be classy but with a punkish twist. As expected, there is great sophistication in the details and a strong reference to the brand. You’ll easily notice the K-shaped motif on the black heel and the zipper charm. It’s K for Karl – so emblematic and discreet at the same time.
Seen from the front, these booties are simple, elegant, black while seen from the back and the sides, these incredible shoes unfold a far more interesting story. There are fine straps and chains secured on the heels, making many less informed fashionistas guessing they are Chanel. In fact, as you might often catch me responding, it’s the same designer! Karl went a bit more punkish this past season, leading the trend for more subversive elements in our looks. This is, though, a far more refined and luxurious version of the rebel’s attitude. Right now punkish ear-cuffs are heavily on-trend, and most of us we still feel wowed by the triumph of the Metropolitan Museum’s previous exhibition ‘Punk: Chaos to Couture’. Personally, I love this well-curated renewal of the punkish style because it matches better my super-feminine, polished look.
Along with these considerations, I can now add more humble reasons to my choice such as the more or less invisible rubber sole which protects me from the slippery, snow-clad streets of NYC, and the very comfortable 3.5-inch chunky heel further securing my steps on every sort of pavement or terrain. These booties have already become my best all-weather companion and a great statement for most of my looks, day to night. I combine them with skinny jeans and leggings, as well as with mini and midi skirts. They look perfect with other black & white pieces but equally flawless with colorful stuff. It’s an adorable contrast – a passe-partout for everything stylish! So stay tuned for more of my covetable pieces coming soon!
