For Marques’Almeida, perfection has never been the most interesting destination. Spring/Summer 2027 makes a persuasive case for everything that can happen before you get there: the raw edge, the disrupted silhouette, the unexpected collision of textures, the dress that appears to have escaped the rules of occasionwear altogether.
Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida presented the collection in Milan on September 27, 2026, marking Marques’Almeida’s first appearance on the Milan Fashion Week runway calendar. Staged at Palazzo Isimbardi, at Corso Monforte 35, the show brought the London-born, Portugal-based label into a new fashion-week setting while remaining firmly connected to the instinctive, technically accomplished design language the duo has cultivated since launching the brand in 2011.
For Spring 2027, that language becomes increasingly sophisticated without surrendering its unruly streak. The central tension is immediately recognizable: refinement meets rawness, sculptural construction encounters ease, and clothes associated with everyday utility find themselves in conversation with pieces made for entrances, exits and lingering glances.
Femininity moves through the collection with an appealing refusal to behave predictably. Volumes swell into sculptural forms before giving way to long, narrow lines. Dramatic peplums create architecture around the body.
Floor-skimming skirts and sweeping trains introduce ceremony, while cargo details and workwear references pull the clothes toward something tougher and more pragmatic. Ruffles interrupt tailoring. Sequins appear on relaxed, masculine shapes. The effect is deliberately unsettled, as though every romantic gesture has been given permission to change its mind.
That push and pull becomes especially vivid through fabric. Distressed denim and the raw finishes closely associated with Marques’Almeida meet satin, lace, transparency, brocade and richly worked surfaces.
Asymmetry remains essential, as does deconstruction, yet neither reads as an exercise in disorder. Behind the looseness sits the technical intelligence that has shaped the label from its earliest collections.
There is glamour here, although Marques’Almeida approaches it from an oblique angle. Dresses grow purposefully excessive. Trains trail across the floor.
Shimmer enters the picture without erasing the rougher elements around it. Rather than treating occasion dressing as a prescribed formula, Marques and Almeida dismantle its familiar expectations and rebuild them around personality.
Color deepens that mood. Black provides an emphatic foundation, joined by beige, lavender, burgundy, sky blue and saturated indigo. Prints and textures accumulate rather than obediently coordinate.
Pieces appear collected over time, layered according to instinct and worn with enough conviction to make conventional matching feel beside the point.
The styling follows the same philosophy. Marques’Almeida has long resisted the idea that its clothes belong to one narrowly defined archetype, and SS27 continues that approach.
Masculine and feminine codes circulate freely throughout the collection, while individuality becomes the connective tissue. The clothes invite character rather than prescribe one.
It is an idea that feels particularly relevant to the designers’ trajectory. Marques and Almeida developed their partnership while studying for their MA at Central Saint Martins in London and launched their namesake label in 2011. Their first two seasons were presented through Lulu Kennedy’s Fashion East platform, followed by support from the British Fashion Council’s NEWGEN program and appearances at London Fashion Week.
A defining moment arrived in 2015, when Marques’Almeida won the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers. That same year, the duo received the British Fashion Award for Best Emerging Designer. The years that followed brought international growth, shows in London and Paris, and an expanding universe that included the launch of M’A KIDS in 2020, alongside initiatives addressing sustainability, responsible production and creative community.
Fifteen years after its founding, independence remains central to the Marques’Almeida story. It has also demanded adaptation. The brand has weathered an era of considerable disruption for independent fashion businesses while continuing to evolve, teach, mentor and develop its creative practice from Portugal. Its Milan appearance, supported through Portugal Fashion’s internationalization program, placed that journey on an international runway once again.
What makes Spring 2027 compelling is the sense that evolution does not require erasure. Marques’Almeida can embrace greater refinement while keeping the frayed edges. It can explore elaborate evening proportions without abandoning denim. It can send satin, lace and brocade into the same visual world as cargo shapes and workwear. Polish is allowed into the room, then gently disturbed before it becomes too comfortable.
There is something liberating in that refusal to resolve every contradiction. A garment can be romantic and awkward, glamorous and lived-in, extravagant and pragmatic. A silhouette can be carefully engineered to look almost accidental. Elegance can carry evidence of the hand that made it.
At Palazzo Isimbardi, those contradictions became the collection’s pulse. Spring/Summer 2027 finds Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida refining their vocabulary while protecting the instinct that gave it life in the first place. Raw hems remain raw. Proportions refuse easy obedience. Beauty emerges through friction rather than flawless coordination.
For Marques’Almeida, the unfinished can be intentional, excess can feel personal, and elegance can arrive with its composure charmingly undone.
