Alaïa & Mugler: A Visionary Dialogue of Glamour Extended in Paris

The acclaimed exhibition Alaïa / Mugler: 1980–1990, Two Decades of Artistic Affinities, currently on view at the Fondation Azzedine Alaïa in Paris, has been extended through August 31st, 2025—offering visitors additional time to immerse themselves in a unique creative friendship that defined an era of fashion.

Curated by Olivier Saillard, the exhibition explores the artistic synergy between Azzedine Alaïa and Thierry Mugler, two trailblazing couturiers who shaped the visual language of the 1980s. Drawing from Alaïa’s extensive personal archive, the show presents over 40 iconic Mugler designs alongside Alaïa’s own creations, revealing a powerful dialogue of silhouettes, sensibilities, and shared inspirations.

The exhibition traces how their paths intertwined—from their first meeting in 1979 to the unforgettable creative exchanges that followed. Mugler’s theatrical grandeur met Alaïa’s architectural precision, resulting in a visual duet that celebrated the female form through sharply tailored tuxedos, sculptural suits, and unapologetic glamour.

Beyond the garments, Alaïa / Mugler pays homage to a friendship rooted in mutual respect and unwavering support. The exhibition includes personal anecdotes, photographs, and moments from their shared summers in Tunisia, underlining how their bond transcended fashion to become something deeply human.

Housed in the heart of the Marais at 18 rue de la Verrerie, the Fondation Azzedine Alaïa invites design lovers, history buffs, and fashion enthusiasts to experience this rare dialogue between two fashion legends—now extended to give voice to their legacy just a little longer.
