On February 28 at the Leather Fashion Hub in Piazza Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, the runway became a stage for reflection as Tokyo James unveiled Harmony, the brand’s Autumn Winter 2026 collection during the Lineapelle Designers Edition in Milan. The presentation formed part of a broader program celebrating innovation across the leather and design supply chain, where emerging and established talents gathered to present forward-thinking collections to an international audience.

For designer Iniye Tokyo James, the collection was conceived as an exploration of coexistence in an increasingly fragmented world. Through a series of layered silhouettes and tactile materials, the runway proposed a dialogue between structure and softness, strength and ease. The garments moved with deliberate rhythm, balancing sharp tailoring with fluid forms that conveyed confidence without excess.

Founded in 2015, the Nigerian-British luxury label has built its identity around a distinctive fusion of cultural references and craftsmanship. The designer’s creative language draws from the dynamic energy of Lagos while embracing the precision of London’s tailoring heritage. With Harmony, that cross-cultural perspective unfolded through a sophisticated wardrobe where proportions, texture, and movement became central to the narrative.

The runway opened with sculptural tailoring that felt quietly commanding. Crisp shirts paired with leather trousers and intricate woven detailing established a visual tension between polish and experimentation. Fringe accents and interlaced leather elements introduced movement to otherwise controlled silhouettes, creating a sense of kinetic elegance as models advanced down the runway.

Elsewhere, tactile surfaces took center stage. Textured jackets and layered outerwear revealed an interest in dimensional craftsmanship, where the fabric itself became an expressive element. Cocooning coats and softly structured ensembles reflected a mood of comfort and introspection, echoing the designer’s exploration of balance in modern life.

Color also played a decisive role. Earthy neutrals grounded the collection, allowing bursts of saturated yellow, molten orange, and luminous ivory to punctuate the lineup with emotional warmth. Pleated dresses softened the architectural language of tailoring, while pearl-embellished ensembles introduced a luminous refinement that contrasted with the rugged tactility of woven and textured pieces.

Leather, a defining material within the collection, appeared in carefully considered ways. Exclusively vegan or recycled, it was integrated into garments as subtle structural accents rather than dominating the silhouette. This restrained approach emphasized harmony between form and function while aligning with the brand’s evolving commitment to conscious design.

The show also underscored the longstanding relationship between Tokyo James and the Afro Fashion Association, the organization founded by Michelle Francine Ngonmo that champions fair representation and opportunities for BIPOC creatives within the fashion industry. Through mentorship and international platforms, the association has played a role in supporting the designer’s journey from emerging talent to globally recognized voice in contemporary fashion.

As the final looks crossed the runway, Harmony revealed itself as more than a seasonal offering. It was a study in contrast resolved through design, where tailoring met fluidity and cultural dialogue shaped every detail. The collection reaffirmed Tokyo James’ commitment to fashion that feels intentional, layered, and deeply connected to the complexities of the present moment.

In Milan, that vision unfolded with quiet authority, leaving behind a narrative defined by confidence, craft, and the enduring pursuit of balance.
