Barefoot & Unbound: Inside Alberto Affinito’s Art259design SS27

It all started here with a strong, earthy sensation. For Spring/Summer 2027, Alberto Affinito’s art259design starts from the feet: the heat of scorched pavement, the unevenness of the earth, the coolness of ground against skin, and the strangely intimate act of surrendering the barrier between body and world.

Titled “A piedi nudi,” Italian for “barefoot,” the collection was presented on September 24, 2026 at the Leather Fashion Hub in Piazza Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, Milan, as part of Lineapelle Designers Edition during Milan Fashion Week. The setting placed Affinito’s ongoing investigation of leather, construction and material transformation within a collection concerned with something even more elemental: what happens when protection falls away.

The answer arrives through contrasts. Earth meets flesh. Heat encounters cold. Darkness moves toward morning. Fragility exists beside strength. The collection’s emotional landscape lives in those points of contact, where apparent opposites occupy the same space and begin to create an unexpected equilibrium.

That tension is fundamental to “A piedi nudi.” Affinito imagines the barefoot body as a body returned to sensation, exposed to the roughness beneath it and consequently more conscious of its own presence. Vulnerability becomes a form of awareness. The ground becomes both physical terrain and metaphorical origin, calling the wearer back to something instinctive, tactile and profoundly human.

The clothes translate that philosophy into material form. Fluid dresses meet structured corsetry; transparent layers reveal and obscure the body in shifting measures. Sand, rust and black establish an earthy chromatic vocabulary, as though the garments had absorbed traces of soil, oxidation, shadow and weather. Blackened, distressed edges carry the suggestion of distance traveled, allowing time to appear almost physically embedded in the clothes.

Affinito’s relationship with fabric has long favored touch over rigid prescription. His creative process allows portions of a collection to develop directly on the mannequin, where material can influence the eventual architecture of a garment. Rather than forcing cloth into a predetermined idea, he studies its behavior, its fall and its capacity for volume. The resulting silhouettes retain a sculptural quality while remaining deeply connected to movement and the human form.

It is an approach informed by experimentation. Born in Potenza and trained in Fashion Design at IED in Rome, Affinito has developed art259design around an evolving exploration of construction, proportion, material and craftsmanship. The brand itself dates back roughly 15 years, and its name carries a personal code: “art” evokes art and craftsmanship, “259” refers to September 25, the date on which the project began, while “design” points to another defining element of Affinito’s creative vocabulary.

For Spring/Summer 2027, that material curiosity finds one of its clearest expressions in leather. Art259design has developed a process that achieves 100% recovery of the leather material it uses, redirecting offcuts into new creative applications. Scraps become details, accessories and even garments composed through recovered material. Here, circularity enters the design process at the level of construction itself, allowing what might have been discarded to acquire another aesthetic life.

In “A piedi nudi,” those fragments feel particularly resonant. A collection centered on origins, transformation and reconnection naturally finds meaning in material that has been given another purpose. Nothing needs to appear untouched to possess beauty. Surfaces can carry evidence of process. Edges can fray. Leather can be reorganized. A garment can reveal its history rather than disguise it.

That sensibility also gives the collection its quietly cinematic atmosphere. One can almost feel the landscape surrounding these clothes: petrichor rising after rain, a horizon suspended between sunset and dawn, wet earth, burned ground, the sea somewhere beyond sight. The imagery belongs to a world in which nature continually negotiates contradictions, reminding us that opposing states can exist simultaneously.

The human figure stands at the center of that landscape. Art259design’s Spring/Summer 2027 proposition gradually dissolves conventional boundaries in favor of a more instinctive relationship between person and garment. Categories become less important than the individual inhabiting the clothes. Fabric responds to the body; the body alters the perception of fabric. Structure and fluidity move together. Transparency becomes another layer of expression rather than simple exposure.

There is also something seductive about the collection’s refusal to polish away every trace of experience. Fashion frequently deals in the fantasy of the immaculate, yet Affinito seems drawn toward surfaces that remember. The blackened and torn edges of the garments evoke the aftermath of a long journey. Wear becomes narrative. Imperfection becomes evidence that something has lived. And perhaps that is where “A piedi nudi” finds its strongest emotional register.

Going barefoot is such a simple gesture, yet here it becomes an invitation to relinquish distance: from the landscape, from material, from other people, and eventually from oneself. To walk without a destination means accepting uncertainty. To feel the ground means accepting its roughness. To remove protection means acknowledging vulnerability without allowing it to become weakness.

Within that idea, fashion becomes an exercise in balance. Body and matter are allowed to encounter one another without either disappearing. The tactile presence of leather coexists with translucency and fluidity. Darkness carries the possibility of morning. Garments marked by apparent wear become vehicles for renewal.

For Alberto Affinito, the journey of art259design continues through precisely this kind of experimentation: allowing material to suggest new forms, recovering what remains, and finding possibility in surfaces and fragments that already possess a history.

“A piedi nudi” ultimately leaves us with an image more powerful than any single look: a person moving forward with bare feet against the earth, exposed enough to feel every irregularity beneath them and free enough to keep walking.
