In fashion, observation is a powerful act. For Fall/Winter 2026–2027, MAREA turns its attention to the dynamic relationship between seeing and being seen with Poltronissima, a collection that approaches clothing as a form of critical dialogue. Drawing from the language of theater, the collection transforms the stage costume into contemporary dress, exploring how garments can move between performance and everyday life.

At the heart of Poltronissima lies a theatrical archive—not treated as nostalgia, but as a structural system of ideas. Historical stage costumes, originally created to embody characters and narratives, are reinterpreted through the brand’s method of upcycling. Materials are cut, repositioned, and recomposed with deliberate precision, allowing garments to evolve from performative objects into living pieces of fashion. This process gives the collection a sense of continuity, where past lives of fabrics remain visible in their renewed form.

The title itself evokes the theater audience. The “poltronissima,” the coveted front-row seat, suggests a vantage point from which to observe the spectacle. In MAREA’s vision, however, the spectator is anything but passive. The FW26/27 woman attends the theater not merely to watch but to examine, analyze, and occupy space with intent. The collection frames fashion as a conscious act of positioning oneself within the gaze of others.

Silhouettes balance structure with release, echoing the tension between stagecraft and everyday movement. Sculptural volumes appear alongside controlled draping, creating garments that feel both composed and fluid. Bourgeois elements are subtly destabilized, while layers reminiscent of costume construction reveal meticulous tailoring beneath their expressive surfaces. The color palette reflects the atmosphere of theatrical interiors. Deep reds, opaque blacks, softened dusty tones, and flashes of metallic shimmer evoke the glow of stage lighting and velvet curtains. These hues reinforce the sense of drama embedded within the garments while maintaining a sophisticated restraint.
