Students design shoes for Kate Middleton

by Olivia Pinnock
Kate Middleton will choose and wear the shoe design of one lucky Footwear Design student from De Montfort University.

Six students from the course, who have been shortlisted from 100 entries by their tutors, will present their designs to the Duchess next week when she visits the university as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee tour.

The winner will then have their shoe made up and worn by the style icon.

Kevin Guildford, Head of DMU’s Footwear Degree, said: “We were thrilled when the Palace asked for six designs for the Duchess to choose from. It’s the most fabulous opportunity for the students who couldn’t hope for a bigger fashion icon to endorse their designs. Whoever wins is bound to be starting a brilliant career.”

The six finalists, aged between 20 and 27, are Sam Sawkill, Summer Spencer, Kay Yeng Cheng, Tabitha Duffield, Becka Hunt and Mei Chun Lai.

Four recent Fashion Design graduates from DMU will also put on a fashion show for the royal visitor to mark the occasion.
