NYFW Spring/Summer 2017 Day 7

runa_ray_ss17Internationally recognized Indian-born designer Runa Ray closed out New York Fashion Week with her Spring/Summer 2017 runway show at The Dock, Skylight at Moynihan Station. Stars and fashionistas alike came out to support the designer including Quantico cast members Blair Underwood, Tracy Ifeachor, David Lim, former NFL player Kerry Rhodes and fiancé Nicky WhelanCipriana and TK Quann and more. The collection was inspired by the art of manipulating paper into clothing in infinite ways and paid homage to the great creators of pattern marking. With a nod to ancient Origami and Eastern embroidery, the avant-garde ready-to-wear collection focused on the art of folding and featured over 35 looks. Feminine silhouettes in a monochromatic color palate incorporated a unique blend of suede finished cotton, organza, jute, and silk. Fashion-forward cut bodies also took the runway alongside embroidered flowing kimono-inspired capes, flattering dressing and palazzo pants. The finale truly captured the evolutionary process that takes a garment from a paper sketch to a wearable and versatile contemporary silhouette.

calvin_luo_ss17Calvin Luo also presented his Spring/Summer 2017 Collection with lots of success! Calvin was born in China. At the age of 16, he moved to New York City to attend Parsons the New School for Design. After studying two years at Parsons, he launched of his own fashion label-CALVIN LUO in New York City, which predominantly began with a unisex collection. Calvin Luo’s design features are deconstruction and unisex. For example, his second collection emphasizes transferring feminine elements into menswear. Punk girls in 90s made Calvin Luo realize that their neutral feelings come from the rebellious spirit, but not exaggerated looks or colorful clothes. In this collection, he uses more colors to set off rebellious city girls’ spirit. He uses blue satin and vintage checkered organza, and also adds some embroidery elements to intensify the rebellious spirit. In this collection, Calvin Luo mixes and matches style. For example, he tries to put dresses and blouses together, and match sweaters over-the-knee boots. To enhance the subject of new collection, he also embroiders slogans such as” I’m over you” to show rebellious city girls not to stick to trifles and decisive personality.

georgine_ss17For Spring/Summer 2017, Georgine Ratelband, designer of Georgine, was inspired by the type of girl who shops at Bergdorf Goodman and Trash & Vaudeville. “I think it is a more interesting concept of dressing, one where luxury goods coexist with Rock t-shirts, intricate Couture beading meets motorcycle jackets and lightweight furs are punctuated by combat boots,” remarked Ratelband. Keeping that in mind, Ratelband also drew inspiration from the way that young women always pilfer the closets of their mothers, and how they would wear more classic pieces, but with their own twist put on it. Specifically, Frances Bean Cobain and Zoe Kravitz,
who have mothers with the most incredible closets, came to mind for Ratelband when designing this collection.
Celebrity guests included: Natalie La Rose, Maddie & Tae, Patina Miller, Sarah Rafferty, Natasha Hastings, and
Emily Tremaine.
