NYFW Spring/Summer 2016 Preview Day

Admittedly, NYFW lasts longer than any other fashion week in the world, adding to the core schedule of events many more, right before and right after. It’s more than a week – reportedly 8 days – and if you add the pre-day you’ve got a full 9 days of extravagance, trends, and celebratory spirit.

ss16_day0_1Before even kicking off the first official day of shows, I attended shows, parties, and presentations, including an amazing private viewing of the LoveBinetti collection. Diego Binetti is a very imaginative designer with a knack for colors and artisanal details but at the same time with lots of tasteful balance inherent in his cloths and accessories. I loved Binetti’s handbags, clutches, dresses, pieces with lace appliques and accessories decorated with colorful pom poms, and I appreciated the versatility of options – from darker urban-cool statements to sophisticated casual, romantic eveningwear and even hipster stands outs. Fabrics – some of them a combination of cotton with silk – were beautiful and functional while motifs and textures were truly eye-catching. I’m not the only fan of his; an array of celebrities including uber-stylish Sarah Jessica Parker, have been seduced by his bold eclecticism! The designer, Diego Binetti, described his work as ‘Urban Couture’ and “Ready-to-Wear with Couture techniques”!

ss16_day0_2I saw many more talents during the day, including A Moi, which was very much textural

ss16_day0_3… and romantic in a modern sense and O’2nd, which displayed some very interesting prints referencing urban aesthetics.

ss16_day0_4Since curiosity drags me towards new designers and fresh faces in the fashion industry, I also tried the Gen Art show at Pier 59 Studios which ended up being a real treat! So many interesting ideas out there!

ss16_day0_5The day had more of a party atmosphere that included the extravaganza at the Rootstein x The Blonds back-to-disco launch with the most glam-struck mannequins I’ve ever seen, and the event for the Stage agency (a cutting-edge socially-oriented modeling agency) debut, hosted by Candice Lake. It was fun to meet many upcoming style icons during a fun DJ set by Mia Moretti at Skylark’s dexx!
