Mia Vesper Spring/Summer 2022: The Joy of Sustainability

Mia Vesper’s SS22 collection is about finding your place in the world through dress. It is about realizing how extraordinary it is to have never fit the mold and reflects on the pure joy in finding a kindred spirit. She eschews tired norms in fashion; rejecting the romanticization of the glum and drab and instead, rejoicing in clothing that is joyful and exclamative. As always, her collection and entire body of work speak to the inherent sustainability of beautiful and intentional garments.

SS22 comprises women’s and unisex garments in new, vintage, and artisan-made materials from around the world. This collection includes hand-loomed Mexican serape, vintage Italian wedding blankets, Turkish 1970s tapestry along with new materials like her signature metallic flecked plissé. All garments are made in New York City’s garment center.

Vesper’s first-ever jewelry collection debuted alongside her RTW collection, in the form of multilayered glass and Swarovski crystal chokers, handcrafted in Germany.

The label has been operating since 2017, but the designer’s creative spirit has a much longer lineage. Her grandmother was Milwaukee Ballet’s costume director while her mother was a textile artist. Much of Vesper’s work and ethos is influenced by the preternaturally stylish and dynamic women in her life and history.

“There are many ways to interpret brand integrity and sustainability. I count my small batch, New York-made operation as one proverbial tick mark, and I count my sometimes-use of vintage material as another… But at the end of the day, I believe the most incorruptible aspect of a fashion brand comes from the specialness and intentionality of the garments. I make clothes that are special to people.” — MV

Her creations have been recently featured on A-listers like Paris Hilton, Billie Eilish, and Machine Gun Kelly.
