Hui Zhouzhao Expands the Shenzhen–Milan Dialogue Through Living Craftsmanship

As the third edition of Shenzhen–Milan Lifestyle Week concludes, its vision continues far beyond the runway with a cultural initiative that places heritage, craftsmanship, and human connection at the center of an international dialogue. Rather than marking the end of the event, the newly announced Cultural Immersion Program invites an international delegation to discover Guizhou Province, offering an in-depth exploration of one of China’s most culturally distinctive regions through the people who continue to shape its creative legacy.

Conceived as a natural continuation of the exchange between Shenzhen and Milan, the program transforms cultural diplomacy into a lived experience. Participants will journey through Guizhou to engage directly with local artisans, communities, and traditions that have been preserved across generations while continuing to evolve within today’s creative landscape. The initiative reflects a broader vision of fashion and design as catalysts for meaningful cultural understanding rather than isolated artistic expressions.

Leading the initiative is Hui Zhouzhao, founder and creative director of HUI Milano and a longstanding ambassador of Chinese culture in Italy. For years, Hui has built a distinctive bridge between China’s artisanal heritage and the international fashion scene, bringing centuries-old craftsmanship into contemporary design while highlighting the cultural narratives behind every handmade creation. Her latest project extends that commitment beyond fashion presentations, creating opportunities for authentic encounters between international visitors and the communities that safeguard these traditions.

The experience places particular emphasis on the women of the Miao ethnic community, whose remarkable expertise in embroidery, textile making, weaving, and decorative arts remains deeply rooted in everyday life. Their work represents far more than exceptional craftsmanship. Every stitch, woven pattern, and handcrafted textile carries stories of identity, collective memory, and cultural continuity, revealing how traditional knowledge continues to inspire new generations without losing its authenticity.

Throughout the program, visitors will observe artisans at work, participate in cultural exchanges, and gain a closer understanding of the social and artistic value embedded within handcrafted objects. The itinerary also embraces Guizhou’s wider cultural landscape through its artistic heritage, material culture, and celebrated culinary traditions, offering a multidimensional portrait of a province where creativity remains inseparable from community life.

One of the defining moments of the Cultural Immersion Program will be the unveiling of a collaborative initiative between HUI and a leading textile group from Guizhou Province. The project demonstrates how traditional craftsmanship can inspire contemporary artistic research while opening new creative possibilities that honor heritage through modern interpretation. An artistic performance and a dedicated presentation will further explore the evolving relationship between ancestral manufacturing techniques and contemporary creative expression.

The Cultural Immersion Program follows the conclusion of Shenzhen–Milan Lifestyle Week 2026, held from July 17 to July 19 in Shenzhen’s Dalang Fashion Town, where the third edition brought together designers, institutions, buyers, universities, and industry leaders from China and Italy under the theme “Digital Fashion, Oriental Expression.” The event reinforced its growing role as an international platform connecting fashion, innovation, culture, and economic cooperation while expanding its global reach through meaningful cross-cultural initiatives.

For Hui Zhouzhao, tradition remains a dynamic source of inspiration rather than a chapter confined to history. Through the Cultural Immersion Program, the conversation that began between Shenzhen and Milan evolves into something even more enduring.
