Inspired by the art world and creatives dearest to him, Bibhu Mohapatra designed a FW19 collection that encourages girls of all age groups to dress up. Glamour is still relevant either it coincides with comfort or it becomes a priority in itself. With contrasts and graphic details, the collection that was presented during the NYFW was surely eye-catching.

Heavily asymmetric colorblock looks with ruffles and cutouts, notched hems, smart layering, sheerness, and oversize details were part of Bibhu’s modern identity.

Yet he always keeps design elements from the glorious past, from the history of fashion. Balloon skirts, evening gloves, dazzling embroidery, bows, feathers, and ruffles, along with retro-inspired accessories were there. The mix of old and new design approach made this eveningwear look fresher. The result was playful and cheery.

I personally loved the feather trims along the shoulder lines and arms. I also think that the squared plunging necklines felt characteristic of the designer’s knack for figure-flattering structure and geometry. Several shapes alluded to bows which are always super-feminine.

Motifs were subtle – except for some bold florals – but color combos were in many cases show-stopping. Lace, organza, sequins, beads, and various appliques created an intricate yet balanced runway vision. He really let his imagination fly but maintained in this aesthetic equation the quest for wearability.

Amazing fur outerwear made the ethereal looks eligible for winter occasions. They came in beautiful colors and great juxtapositions of textures. They felt new as well.
