Getting Ready for the New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2019

Last season – for the SS19 collections that were presented to the media in September 2018 – I attended more than 40 shows and events – a regular number throughout my many NYFW seasons – and had many cool and touching moments including watching some shows with my bestie fellow Instagrammer @bellehaute. As I told you before, it takes a lot of work and intricate thought process behind these glam and colorful snaps. And if the effort and the guessing of the trends reaches your goals, then reward comes in the form of recognition. Like for example seeing a closeup of your streetstyle posted online on Vogue Paris, The Cut, and other prestigious outlets…

Accessories quite often are more important than the clothes. I’m usually receiving at the New York Fashion Week more comments about my shoes, purses, and jewelry, rather than my dresses and pants! Of course, the Feel Good Fur outerwear I design comes to the forefront in wintertime. Vogue.fr noticed me the first day of the shows and that was a great mood-booster for the rest of the week!

Here I was proud to style a Monse deconstructed zip-accented asymmetric hem checked dress with J.W. Anderson cylinder-heel mules, and an elongated Off-White clutch bag as a nod to a reinvented business look.

@BUREAU247SINGAPORE caught me making big strides towards the next show of Day 1.

Right after the Laurence & Chico show, I was carrying this fabulous ‘Sport’ gift bag which late at night – back at the James Hotel – I discovered it was all a fashionista can currently be asking for; a mega-size palette of glitter eyeshadows! I adopted them day-to-evening for the whole week and more.

On the rainy day of the Escada Anniversary show at the Park Avenue Armory, I still tried to look cute & fun, wearing a multicolor printed Emilio Pucci trenchcoat, bright orange Poppy Lissiman shades that turned the grey sky into a sunny one – a mere illusion – and my comfy weather-proof Alexander McQueen sneakers.

Rain didn’t deter me from wearing my MSGM florals, and a cotton basketweave purse from Alienina, that was later posted on their official Instagram account.

Dresses such as this reasonably-priced statement-making star-print maxi prairie style by Stine Goya will make for an easy NYFW look. All you need is to spice them up with contrasting and unexpected accessories such as this sporty Off-White belt.

Once again, keep in mind that fashion is in the details; a real balancing act between what people perceive as chic and what editors think as boundary-pushing and avant-garde.

Sometimes the perfect setting will further enhance your outfit choice of the day. In this case, my Rosetta Getty structural blazer and Alice & Olivia cheetah motif skirt, felt like totally embedded to the San Gennaro scene in Little Italy. If you really want to be noticed by the fashion photographers, pay attention to where you stand!

Quite often you can discover things in your closet that are back on trend, and can be mixed & matched with new items you bought or borrowed from the designers and showrooms for the NYFW. I found the cat-eye and sculptural shape of these Erdem glasses I had bought seasons ago, very thrilling and so did the streetstyle photographers!

A smile can take you a long way. Be friendly with the people participating in all kinds of ways to the making of the NYFW atmosphere because what we see and enjoy at that time of the year is a group effort. Photographers, videographers, editors, stylists, makeup artists, NYFW interns, volunteers, and administrative staff, they are all helping in bringing fashion magic to the world!

A look might allow you to make a multiplicity of statements such as when I mixed my feminist ‘Women are More Than Muses’ House of Holland sweatshirt with my artsy “Sculpture” Off-White purse, my geometric Solace London heels, and my on-trend leopard motif Merchant Archive pants.

It’s good to be experimental and have fun with fashion. I went full-on prairie for the first time with a Mother of Pearl floral dress and a Clyde hat, and I totally felt like part of a movie set!

Plus, try to make new friends and enjoy parties and shows together; such a pleasure to meet @sparksescape; a chic Gucci-nista and many more ‘it’ girls!

Wishing you a Happy, Fashionable 2019 and a wonderful NYFW!
