NYFW Spring/Summer 2016 Day 1

I thought that this season would be tough for newbies, yet it ended up being challenging for all Fashion Week press attendees.  This season, New York Fashion Week’s events are so diffused across the city and the schedule is so tight, that you can’t but miss some shows along the way!

ss16_day1_1Snapping street style in-between!

Since NYFW lost its Lincoln Center venue, there is a transitional situation going on, including other venues such as Moynihan Station, Skylight Clarkson Square, Pier 59 Chelsea Studios, Spring Studios, Eyebeam Art Center and many more, mostly on Manhattan’s West Side.  Traffic is enormous and distances are getting longer.  We are hopping among the same venues back forth, juggling all sorts of events day to night.  I love doing so, yet I’m rather concerned with the way it works this season!

ss16_day1_2Early in the morning I watched the Nicholas K show, which was around the brand’s signature styles of utility and urban aesthetics, yet when I tried to get fast from Washington Street to Moynihan Station I failed to arrive on time and didn’t make it to the BCBG Max Azria show! Then I decided to get realistic and catch as many shows as I could, skipping those that were impossible to do.

ss16_day1_3I went to the 5:31 Jérôme presentation, which was really about fabulous exotic glam and over-the-top sophistication. This intimate presentation at Pier 59 Studios on a terrace decorated with palm tree leaves and flowers, featured some extraordinary embellishments on cutting-edge silhouettes. It was a study on maximalism but in a rather tasteful way. The designer is praised by an array of fashion notables including celebrity stylist June Ambrose.

ss16_day1_4I later attended the Desigual show, full of color and an ethnic feel. Graphic prints, color-blocking, clashing motifs and a patchwork effect were dominant throughout the collection. The braided hairstyles further alluded to the gypsy influence. The clothes and accessories were fully infused with the spirit of Barcelona! In attendance were cool fashion icons such as Iris Apfel, Karolina Kurkova, and Laverne Cox. It seems that the brand embraces a wide range of clients with a knack for color and print!

ss16_day1_5What followed was the Kids Rock show, where cuteness met upbeat music and sporty stardust!

ss16_day1_6But the coolest part of the day was the Gant evening presentation that was actually a party with great cocktails, music and new cosmopolitan looks to revamp the brand’s preppy heritage as a traveler’s dream! Perfect setting and staging! Finally, I had a business dinner at Sessanta, in the Sixty Soho Hotel, discussing the future and potential of fashion e-commerce! What a day!

Stay tuned! Love!
