New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2015 Day 1

The first day of Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week was full of surprises, and one of them was weather getting super chilly by the end of the day.

I started my day with the very first which was Nicholas K, always suggesting a very distinctive version of the laid-back look, borrowing elements from nomadic life, ancient draping and classical American sportswear. The palette is neutral, the forms are loose but the design is intricate and functional.

At BCBG Max Azria, there was another story mixing comfort with high fashion, employing the warmest materials and reinterpreting femininity in a very confident way. Quilting, knitwear, patchwork and many other techniques were active here.

Then at Costello Tagliapietra – the famous designer duo with loyal fans in NYC – presented retro-feminine looks in delicious bold colors and pastels, with a bit of shine juxtaposing the opaqueness of other fabrics and witty details such as suspenders keeping some wonderful skirts in place. It was school girls of the 20s meeting modern-day hipster for me!

At Desigual color was abundant and beyond the theatrical headpieces we saw some amazing work done in terms of silhouettes and details. It was cool new-age sophistication!

Saunder made as swoon when looking at Emily Saunders’ Modern Tudor interpretation and Megan Isaacs epic golden jewelry mixed with dangerously glamorous nail art by Patricia Yankee! Ed’s Chowder at the Empire Hotel was packed with attendees wishing to take a snap of the coveted looks, and believe me, it was a really hard task!

The Nike/Levi’s Annual Kids Rock show infused us with lots of cuteness by the new generation of talents. Some toddler models seemed to be naturals on the catwalk and it was real fun for everybody in the room.

After a dinner at stylish Cherche Midi, we went to the MadMaus party at No.8 where the stylish MadMaus motif prevailed in various wearable forms from T-shirts to headpieces! The music was really cool with classic 80s and 90s tunes. They were all vinyl records!

So stay tuned for more because Day 2 will be equally busy and exciting!

Love!!!
