After attending the Cannes Film Festival last spring, designer Pamella Roland’s Spring 2014 collection takes its inspiration from the glitz, glamour and iconic imagery synonymous with the festival of the early 1960s. The effortless style of Hollywood starlets like Brigitte Bardot, Grace Kelly and Catherine Deneuve, combined with the palpable energy and vibrant colors of the French Riviera, are the elements that inspired this collection; but the contrast of bold and subtle colors done in intricate and unique fabrics is what makes this collection thoroughly modern and uniquely ‘pamella roland’.

Channeling the warm hues of the Côte d’Azur, this season’s color palette of french orange, coeur pink, rose blush, soleil yellow, and clair blue pop when paired against more neutral tones of black, ivory and grey.  But it’s the elaborate fabrications that make this collection truly distinctive. Metallic jacquards, fils-coupe and stretch faille are used in fresh and innovative combinations for daytime looks. Details like sheer paneling, geometric honeycomb beading and hexagonal Plexiglass accents complement the cocktail dresses and gowns that the designer is so well known for.

Key pieces of this collection include the black/ivory floral fils-coupe sheath dress that exemplifies the use of a timeless silhouette done in a unique fabric. The pink floral fils-coupe dress with taupe grosgrain waist is a head-turning cocktail look. The charcoal stretch faille cocoon coat with crystal-beaded pockets is a new, sophisticated silhouette.  And the true stand out . . . Pamella’s unique twist on the raincoat. After braving torrential rain during her visit to Cannes last spring, Pamella was determined to create a glamorous, yet functional raincoat. The result is a transparent vinyl trench bonded with black lace that is completely weatherproof.

To kick off the new season, Pamella Roland recently announced the launch of their newly designed website, www.pamellaroland.com .  The new, on-line destination was designed by Calliope Studios and the advertising campaign photography was shot by Nigel Barker and Studio NB. The easy-to-navigate site showcases the last year of Pamella Roland’s collections as well as where-to-buy information and behind-the-scenes video. The new Pamella’s Diaries section is the designer’s digital journal chronicling her travels and her design inspiration each month. The feature currently shares Pamella’s travel notes and personal photographs from her trip to the Cannes Film Festival that inspired the Spring 2014 collection.

The Pamella Roland collection launched in 2002 and, in the last decade, has become one of the leading eveningwear resources in the country.  Designer and President, Pamella Roland, was inducted into the Council of Fashion Designers of America, and she has evolved the collection to become a brand of choice among style icons and celebrities including Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry, Eva Longoria, and Jennifer Garner.  The collection is sold at the finest department and specialty stores in the United States and abroad.  The Pamella Roland Collection is proudly made in New York and this is very important to those who support the idea of locally-produced fashion us opposed to fashion made in other countries but presented under an American label. I truly appreciate this bold, talented designer for her choice!
